Beekeeping Course - 8 weeks practical

Service Description

Over the course of 8, 2hr sessions you will learn about the European honeybee and how to care for them. We will teach you beekeeping skills and help you put them into practise, building up your confidence when handling bees that you feel comfortable managing your own hives (if you wish to set up your own apiary!). Over the course of the 8 weeks we will cover: Lifecycles, castes and roles in the hive, swarms, pests and diseases, apiary hygiene and maintenance and much more. This course aims to give you everything you need that if you wish to start beekeeping you will feel fully confident doing so, although many people who take this course do it just for the knowledge they gain. You will recieve a pdf document containing course notes for you to refer back to during and after the 8 week course. There is also the option to be added to our Hive5 beekeeping community whatsapp group where you and other beekeepers who have done a course with us can ask questions, offer advice and share successes. Small group sizes (maximum 10 people) mean you'll get the chance to be as hands on as you want and ask as many questions as you can think of. We provide a beesuit and gloves but ask that you wear long trousers and wellies or walking boots to protect your ankles and avoid the mud. Ballet shoes, sandles and other styles of shoe that leave your foot exposed are not appropriate footware. We recommend tying long hair back or wearing a headband. Please note: beekeeping courses require a minimum of 4 participants to go ahead. If you book onto a session which fails to meet the required number of participants 7 days before the event takes place, you will be offered the chance to book onto another session or a full refund. Participants who arrive in unsuitable clothing or footware may be unable to take part and will not be eligible for a refund
